Search Redesign, Department Directory, Video, Acronym List

March 8, 2016

Search

In February we held a series of presentations with small groups of TC campus communicators and web developers. The presentation was a review of the many, many search options and interfaces one can be confronted with while navigating the TC campus' decentralized web presence. At the end, we presented some solutions for consideration and welcomed feedback from participants.

We're using feedback from these meetings, usability testing, and search survey results (from last fall) to move ahead with search redesign. If you'd like to join the conversation and read the documentation, join the Search Google Group.

Department Directory

The Department Directory redesign is moving forward as part of the search redesign. We have explored the possibility of drawing directory content from a central source, such as PeopleSoft or LDAP, but found that the data we need is either not present or not standardized in a way that would be usable for the organization-type of listings we need to display. Our plan is to move ahead with a new directory in Drupal. Ongoing communications about this project will be included in the Search Google Group.

Videos Added to Photo Library

The Photo and Video Library now hosts b-roll video. A small selection of videos are currently available with more being added over the upcoming weeks.

U of M Acronym List

With the upcoming retirement of UMWiki, the list of U of M acronyms has been moved to a Google spreadsheet. The U of M Commonly Used Acronyms, like the wiki, is open to edit by anyone at the University. The list is not centrally managed or updated; it relies on you to contribute new acronyms, changes, or corrections.
