Telling University Stories in Greater Minnesota
University Relations recently added a full-time position dedicated to telling our institution's success stories throughout Greater Minnesota, bolstering our mission to highlight the University’s value to everyone around the state.
The University’s presence and role in Greater Minnesota are hard to overstate. Beyond our five campuses, the University has research centers, Extension offices, health care affiliates, successful alumni and, of course, prospective students in every Minnesota county. In terms of raw numbers, the University contributes $8.6 billion a year in economic activity and supports more than 77,000 jobs across the state.
Simply put, our presence is immense. From East Grand Forks to Winona, we impact Minnesotans’ lives on a daily basis. Our job as communicators is to find examples of that Greater Minnesota impact and make sure it’s known.
Over the last few months, our team has worked with several University units to identify our work in Greater Minnesota and successfully share it with the public. For example:
- The School of Dentistry is increasingly publicizing its UCare Mobile Dental Clinic, ensuring more Minnesotans know about the novel health care options available to them;
- University Libraries highlighted its Ebooks Minnesota program, a free online book collection available to anybody within the state’s borders;
- And a lecture from two University researchers about the state’s changing climate helped inform Minnesotans in media markets around the state about historic weather trends and predictions for the future.
We’re constantly on the lookout for more Greater Minnesota stories to share. If you have one and you want University Relations’ help getting it out there, feel free to reach out to our new Greater Minnesota media consultant, Devin Henry.
