Comms planning this summer? Think external communications.

Finals are done, graduations are over, and all five of the University’s campuses will be a wee bit quieter for the next couple of months.

Quiet, though, is relative. At the U, summer is a time of preparation and change.

As you use this summer to plan out your communications for the next year, be sure to keep in mind opportunities to share your unit’s story or expertise with the media—whether it’s local, state, or national.

Some examples:

  • If your unit is welcoming new faculty, is there an opportunity to highlight their expertise in the coming year through Expert Alerts or Talking ... with UMN?
  • Are faculty research projects expected to reach any milestones this summer or in early fall?
  • Is your unit launching a new initiative? If so, could it be of interest to the campus community, higher education trades, or beyond?
