New Report Analyzes Media Consumption in the U.S.


A new report from Attest, a consumer research platform, offers the latest data of U.S. media consumption habits in 2021, a year of the pandemic.

Breaking down the data by age demographic, here are a few of the report’s findings:

  • 44% of Gen Z (aged 18-24)  is streaming 3+ hours a day;
  • 60% of Gen Z visit TikTok daily, while daily use of other platforms like Facebook come in at 28%, Twitter at 25% and Clubhouse at 22%;
  • 15% of Millenials (aged 25-40) listen daily to podcasts and 45% listening at least once a week;
  • 32% of Millennials read newspapers weekly and 13% daily;
  • More Millennials get their news online, with 60% using news websites or apps weekly, and 24% using them daily;
  • Gen X (aged 41-56) is less likely to be regular readers of physical newspapers and magazines than Millennials;
  • Gen X is second most likely, only behind Boomers, to access news websites frequently – 28% visit daily and 17% a few times a week;
  • 54% of Boomers (aged 57-65) watch 3+ hours of live TV per day;
  • Boomers’ appetite for news can be seen in how often they access news websites and apps; 35% of Boomers say they use news websites and apps daily, while 16% visit a few times a week; and
  • 27% of Boomers say they spend less than 30 minutes on social media each day, while a further 13% say they generally don’t use it at all.
