The University is in the process of changing from the Google Search Appliance (the tool that runs search at the U) to a new tool. Once that change is made, tabbed search results will no longer function.
At the end of 2018, Google will retire the Google Search Appliance (GSA), which means the University needs to find a replacement for our internal University web search results. Tabbed search will also be eliminated and units still using tabbed search should plan to update soon.
The old tabbed search layout for search results is being phased out and replaced by the U's new search results interface. University Relations and OIT are offering sporadic demonstrations of the new interface along with one-on-one assistance. The next session is next week on the 20th.
A new search interface is now available and recommended for use on all umn.edu websites. A Search Self-Help Guide has been published to guide web developers through the steps to set up the U's search interface on your site(s).
The University Relations digital communications team has been working on a News filter for search.umn.edu. We've customized the results to display images, dates, and sources in the result list, with different layouts for mobile and desktop.
