Get help with Google Maps

University Relations (UR) has been making efforts to distribute ownership of Google Business Profiles to relevant communications departments so the information can be updated by the people who know most about each location. To facilitate this, a Google Group has been created so you can ask and answer questions from each other and also receive reminders about upcoming holidays and best practices.

Google Business Profiles are used to manage your online presence across Google through publishing location information on maps, business hours, phone numbers, and more. Regularly updating this information is crucial for enhancing your online visibility and optimizing your sites for search engines.

Google Business Profiles, including Google Maps, are not included in Google Workspace that is supported by OIT. The Google Group will help to answer questions quickly without you having to contact Google directly. UR currently manages most Twin Cities locations, but will help with all University-related locations, including on our system campuses.

UR would still be the primary owner of each location, but would make your departmental account an additional owner. This departmental account would then be able to add individuals as managers so they could easily check and modify location information, read and respond to reviews, and add or remove pictures.

We will add any current owners and managers to the Google Group, but non-members can request access through the Google Group page. Please see our page on Google Business Profiles if you’d like to get access to manage a location, have a location that UR can “take over,” or have a one-time update to a location you’d like us to make.
