Public Relations

University Public Relations, a part of the Office of University Relations, works with communications departments across the University of Minnesota System campuses to tell the stories of the people, the work and the value that the University of Minnesota delivers to students, the state's economy and Minnesotans through internal and external communication channels.

Among the specific functions of University Public Relations are:

  • Provide public relations support and strategic counsel, including developing communications plans and messages, thought leadership (op-ed) assistance, and issues and crisis management
  • Identify and frame stories to reflect the University of Minnesota's mission, legislative requests and priorities of the Board of Regents and the President
  • Connect journalists with faculty expertise and manage incoming media requests
  • Amplify faculty published research
  • Advise on news releases and other external communications tools
  • Conduct media training for senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students
  • Oversee the ReadyCam® Broadcast Studio
  • Enhance internal communications
