Media Coverage’s Added Value: Boosting Online Presence

Among the benefits of media coverage is increasing the U of M System’s presence in Minnesota and national media by sharing faculty subject matter expertise and research.

However, media coverage also provides added value beyond the headlines.

In a recent post for Spin Sucks, Scott Baradell, founder and CEO of the PR and marketing firm Idea Grove, shared the benefits of media coverage in the online space from behind the scenes.

In one example, “...the chief search advocate at Google, John Mueller, recently stated that when ranking websites, a single, high-value link from a major news website carries more weight with Google than ‘millions’ of low-quality links.”

University Relations invites you to continue to share with us stories and updates from your units to increase media coverage. Some of our communications tools to consider are the Story Sharing Form, Research Briefs, and Talking ... with U of M.

We look forward to partnering with you to convey the value the U of M delivers to our state and world. As always, please feel free to reach out to us at unews@umn.edu if you have any questions.
